Calculations based on a customer's current weekly spend on groceries X 52 weeks per year X (Life Expectancy subtract current age) X 25%.
Example calculation:
• 35 year old woman spending £100 per week on groceries, calculation would be:
• £100 x 52 x (81.3 – 35 = 46.3) x 25% = £60,190, i.e. by shopping at Aldi she would save over £60k in her lifetime.
The saving is at 'today's prices'. No adjustment has been made for any future price changes.
On average, a customer would typically spend 25% more on their groceries at the main four supermarkets (Tesco, ASDA, Sainsbury and Morrisons) than they would for the same groceries bought at Aldi. The calculation is based upon an average spend per week at a
competitor supermarket.
Average Life Expectancy figures provided by the National Statistics Office, May 2008. (Average age expectancy figure for the United Kingdom, Overall Average: 79.1, Male: 76.9, Female: 81.3)
Due to average UK life expectancy data, minimum age for calculation purposes should be no less than 18 and age should not exceed 76 for a Male and 81 for a Female.
